Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic healthcare support worker to join our team. You will need to demonstrate evidence of a previous caring role with children or babies

You will prioritise you own work load; build good working relationships with the MDT, as well as children, young people and their families; and rise to the challenge of working within a diverse and ever-changing environment.

Main duties of the job

To work as a skilled member of the ward nursing team, providing a high standard of holistic, family centred care to children / young people and families.

To communicate effectively at all levels with the multi-disciplinary team.

To manage and maintain a child-focused environment where play occurs naturally.

To use theoretical knowledge and evidence based practice to assess, plan,
implement and evaluate therapeutic play interventions.

To document care interventions and outcomes in patient notes.

To develop skills and knowledge and be responsible for own practice.

To promote an awareness of the emotional needs of children in hospital and the importance of play, within the multi-disciplinary team.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NVQ Level II in Health Care or equivalent. Working towards NVQ level III
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of additional training e.g. Paediatric Observation, Venepuncture, cannulation, ECG
  • NVQ Level III in Health Care

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Broad range of experience of working with children / young people in a child care / play / youth in addition working in hospital or community health setting
  • Experience of working with children / young people with additional needs, including those with challenging behaviours
  • Experience of working with families / carers, as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working with children/ young people mental health issues

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Word processing and internet skills.
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience of using Maxims, EObs and CORE IT systems
