Job overview

·  Royal Cornwall Hospital Pharmacy Stores Team are looking for an enthusiastic individual to manage the operational aspects of the Pharmacy Stores service for the Secondary care services in Cornwall; including but not limited to; direct liaison with key stakeholders and suppliers to overcome delays and to help maximise performance; direct liaison with key pharmacy staff to advise on delays, particularly where treatment is of an urgent nature.  This post is a development role for the right candidate to progress from a Band 4 to Band 5 based on the development criteria within the job description.  The successful applicant will need to complete a suitable level 3 qualification in health and safety or warehouse management related fields.

Main duties of the job

  •    To work towards managing the operational aspects of the Pharmacy Stores Service at the Royal Cornwall Hospital covering customers throughout the Cornwall Healthcare community.  The includes direct liaison with key customers and suppliers to overcome delays and to help maximise performance.

·         To manage the team that organise and maintain efficient drug purchasing for fluids and feeds held within the pharmacy store.

·         To manage the receipt of all pharmaceuticals into the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust.

·         To ensure the pharmacy stores is compliant with all aspects of Good Distribution Practice.

·         To have responsibility for health and safety within the pharmacy store including proactive risk assessment within the store, training and maintenance of equipment.

·         Maintain a programme of stock checks, expiry date checks and critical drug usage monitoring checks.

·         Manage the ordering of medical gases for RCHT.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • To be able to meet the requirements for entry onto a suitable level 3 course
  • GCSE in maths and science at grade 4 or above
Desirable criteria
  • Level 4 Management Qualification
  • EDCL or equivalent
  • Warehouse operational Good Distribution Practice Certificate
  • Medical gas handling train the trainer training
  • NEBOSH or warehouse management Level 3 Certificate
  • Warehouse operations and Good Distribution Practice requirements and/or management qualification to diploma level or equivalent in-house training

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of liaising with customers and suppliers.
  • Experience of supervising a team of staff including organisation of day to day work, training, recruitment and appraisal.
  • Experience of investigating problems and resolving day to day issues within a pharmacy stores environment.
  • Expired of supervising a warehouse
Desirable criteria
  • Experience involving the supply and/or purchase of medicines in a healthcare setting.
  • Experience of the Wellsky stock control system.
  • Experience of managing a team
  • Experience of applying good distribution practice principles to pharmaceutical warehouse management.
  • Significant experience of supervising a pharmaceutical warehouse.
  • Experience of utilising a stock control system at an advanced level, including understanding of stock algorithms and costing methodologies.

Practical and Intellectual Skills

Essential criteria
  • Numerate and with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Negotiating skills for liaising with suppliers and customers regarding contractual issues.
  • Frequent requirement to concentrate.
  • Able to interpret complex financial information concerning contractual information.
  • Able to communicates technical information to departmental colleagues and external customers.
  • Able to author and implement standard operating procedures for purchasing area
  • Able to organise and adjust rotas and plan plans work schedules.
  • Able to use lifting and handling equipment.
  • UK drivers licence able to undertake driving of a van.
  • Experience of dealing with service complaints and issues
  • Able to maintain stores equipment
