Job overview

The Pharmacy Technical Services Unit based at the Royal Cornwall Hospital, Truro currently have a vacancy for a Band 5 Senior Technician.

This post is also available as a development Band 4 to Band 5 Senior Pharmacy Technician post attracting a starting salary of £26530 for newly or recently qualified technicians with a desire to develop in this very specialist area of pharmacy. Full training will be provided. 

Working in our specialist facility you will be part of a dedicated team preparing vital medicines for our patients. You will assist in the preparation of injectable medicines such as chemotherapy, radiopharmaceuticals, intravenous nutrition and other life-saving therapies for our patients This role will also include supporting the Lead Operations Technician in managing the Unit and the Lead Training Technician for provision of supervision and training of other Technical Services staff.

Main duties of the job

Under the direction of the Lead Technicians be responsible for the co-ordination of day to day activities associated with all aspects of pharmacy technical services in order to support the needs of patients and which meet standards of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP).

 To act as a validated dispenser for the manufacture of a range of sterile products, support the manufacture of radiopharmaceutical products and assist in the requirements of providing a non-sterile manufacturing service. You will also provide direct supervision of a team of technicians and pharmacy assistants helping to ensure services are provided in a safe, efficient and timely manner.

 Having completed specialist PIPC (Pre- and In-Process Checking), and PAAP (Product Approval Accreditation Program) training, be responsible for checking and approving batches of medicines prepared under the Medicines Act 1968 Section 10 exemption for individual patients.

  • BTEC/NVQ 3 Pharmaceutical Science or equivalent
  • Professional Registration - GPHC or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Pre and In Process checking Qualification
  • Product Approval Accreditaion Program qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • 2 years post qualification experience in a Pharmacy Technical Services environment
  • 2 years post qualification experience in another pharmacy environment
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in a pharmacy production environment or equivalent
