Main duties of the job

Healthcare Assistant:

To assist in the delivery of clinical care, planned and assessed by the Registered Nurses.

To carry out care / other duties under indirect supervision of a Registered Nurse and/or Senior Health Care Assistant.

Support care on a day-to-day basis for all patients in the clinical area in a manner sensitive to the individual patient needs and wishes, acknowledging their rights and beliefs at all times.

Contribute to resource management within the clinical area.

Staff Nurse:

To work as a skilled member of the nursing team.

To provide a high standard of compassionate patient centred care.

To lead and supervise the work of other qualified and unqualified staff within the team.

To communicate effectively at all levels within the multi-disciplinary team.

To be able to take charge of the ward in the absence of senior nursing staff, as deemed appropriate by the Ward Sister / Charge Nurse or Clinical Matron.

Person specification

Healthcare Assistant

Essential criteria
  • GCSE Maths & English, or Equivalent
  • NVQ 2 in Health Care, or Equivalent
  • Clinical skills e.g. venepuncture, blood transfusion, aseptic non touch technique
  • Previous experience in a care setting
  • Previous hospital experience
  • Verbal communication / language skills
  • Computer literate
  • Competent in English Language – written and verbal
  • Adaptability to cope with changing workload
  • Able to work in a team environment
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ 3 in Direct Care

Registered Nurse

Essential criteria
  • Level 1 Registered Nurse with valid NMC registration / students pending registration
  • A minimum of six months experience in an acute Trust within the last twelve months (this can include student placement)
  • Understanding of evidence based practice to enhance care
  • Understanding of professional and current issues in nursing.
  • Understanding of the importance of research and evidence based practice
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work as part of an effective team
  • Basic computer skills
Desirable criteria
  • Assessing & Mentoring qualification. Commitment to obtain assessing / mentoring qualification
