Job overview
To provide a highly specialist dietetic service to the multidisciplinary Nutrition Support Team (NST). The post holder will have lead responsibility for co-ordination, provision and development of the dietetic service for the NST.
To maintain an agreed case load for patients, performing advanced assessment of patients including those with highly complex presentations, to formulate diagnoses and treatment plans, which will include Parenteral Nutrition (PN) and complex Enteral Nutrition (EN), working as an autonomous practitioner.
To work alongside the members of the NST, co-coordinating, delivering and evaluating the service.
To participate in NST ward rounds on a regular basis.
To undertake line manager duties for dietitians.
To work alongside the Inpatient Therapy Manager and Deputy Inpatient Therapy Manager, and the Professional Lead, in planning, co-coordinating, delivering and evaluating the service.
To be instrumental in the on-going development of a range of nutritional services and practices that provide high quality care and interventions across the Trust.
To carry out any special duties associated with the post (see section below).
Main duties of the job
To provide a Highly Specialist Dietetic service to patients referred to the multidisciplinary Nutrition Support Team at Royal Cornwall Hospitals. This will include dietetic assessment, nutritional diagnosis, and team working to formulate nutritional treatment and goal setting.
To provide regular ward review of patients on Parenteral Nutrition providing professional cross cover for the Nutrition Nurse and Pharmacist / Pharmacy Technician.
To operationally supervise and line manage dietitians for example within the surgery specialism, this may be subject to change as services develop and may include support workers and dietetic apprentices in the future.
To lead and support the development of the dietitians within surgery in the measurement and evaluation of clinical practice through the use of evidence based practice, research and audit in the specialist area of nutrition support.
To act as the expert resource, leading in the provision of high-quality teaching and training to students and health care professionals within area of expertise.

Person specification
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics or equivalent leading to Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) Registration as a Dietitian
- HCPC Registered
- Evidence of further formal study e.g. Postgraduate qualifications, (Postgraduate certificate/Diploma, Masters modules, or equivalent management qualification
Desirable criteria
- Membership of relevant professional body
- Membership of relevant specific interest groups
- Supplementary Prescriber
Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant post qualification experience
- Highly developed clinical skills in Nutrition support
- Comprehensive experience of working in a specialist area of dietetics - acute inpatients and community outpatients
