An exciting opportunity has arisen in our Trauma and Orthopaedics Team in the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust for a motivated and enthusiastic Occupational Therapist with significant experience in that specialism to join the team.
Job overview:
- To provide a high standard Occupational Therapy service.
- To maintain an agreed case load within in the clinical specialism, performing advanced assessment of patients including those with highly complex presentations. To formulate diagnoses and treatment plans, as an autonomous practitioner.
- To undertake line manager duties for the team.
- To work alongside the Inpatient Therapy Manager and Trauma and Orthopaedics Therapy Lead, and the Occupational Therapy Professional Lead, in planning, co-coordinating, delivering and evaluating the service.
- To be instrumental in the on-going development of services and practices that provide high quality care and interventions.
Main duties of the job
To deliver a high standard Occupational Therapy to Trauma and Orthopaedics patients. The majority of the caseload is adults, with some paediatric patients seen.
To lead the Trauma and Orthopaedics Occupational Therapy Team, working in close collaboration with Physiotherapy Leads, Trauma and Orthopaedics Matron and MDT, and Therapy Lead for T+O.

Person specification
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy
- HCPC Registered
- Evidence of further formal study e.g. Postgraduate qualifications, (Postgraduate certificate/Diploma, Masters modules, or equivalent management qualification
- IELTS unless qualification in English
Desirable criteria
- Membership of relevant professional body
- Membership of relevant specific interest groups
Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant post qualification experience
- Comprehensive experience of Trauma and Orthopaedics
- Ability to demonstrate highly developed leadership skills
- Proven experience of managing a service or change process
- Able to work and lead under externally applied pressures e.g. deadlines, competing demands and priorities
- Highly developed skills in managing staff, including managing challenging behaviours, emotive situations, (e.g. Attendance management, grief, illness, etc.)
