Please note: Although this role is being advertised by East Lancashire Hospitals Trust, the role is based at, and working on behalf of, University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust properties through the One Lancashire and South Cumbria (One LSC) corporate collaboration.
Main duties of the job
This is a highly rewarding role. Working under the relevant Estates Officer, the successful candidate will embark on a challenging adventure, safely, efficiently, and with patient and staff safety at the heart of their focus.
Working for our organisation
We operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Sound academic demonstrative qualifications.
- NVQ level 2 or other recognised foundation qualification in maintenance.
- Driving licence (B+E)
Desirable criteria
- Portable Appliance Testing Qualification.
- Risk Assessment Certificate
Experience
Essential criteria
- Demonstrate previous experience in a maintenance support role within an engineering or building field.
Personal Qualities
Essential criteria
- Be able to demonstrate an ability to manage priorities under pressure.
- Ability to comply with the Trust’s policies.
- Ability to travel between the Trust sites as required
- To demonstrate flexibility in approach to work patterns.
Skills
Essential criteria
- Proven ability to adapt to change and new ideas, knowledge and skills.
- Ability to deal with information sensitively and confidentially.
- Ability to work as part of a team but must be able to work unsupervised.
- Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing with other members of the department, other (non-technical) Trust staff, patients, visitors.

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
