Job overview

An exciting opportunity to work in our growing Clinical Investigations Unit.  The post holder will be expected to work effectively and efficiently as part of the Clinical Investigations team in providing a high-quality service, ensuring the highest standard of patient care.

 Undertakes Cardiology physiological tests on patients to inform clinical diagnosis, interpret results and provides factual reports e.g., Electrocardiograms, Ambulatory BP and ECG Cardiac monitors and Event recorders. Lead exercise testing. To provide factual reports for interpretation of ECG monitors. Angiograms and Pacemaker devices, Exercise Tolerance Test and Adenosine.

The post holder will be expected to work within a team environment, providing robust and comprehensive clerical service, together with general administrative tasks for the department.   

The post holder will be expected to be flexible to the needs of the service and be able to travel cross bay if and when required.

Main duties of the job

· Recording and first line interpretation of Resting 12 lead Electrocardiogram

 · Ambulatory Monitoring hook up (ECG, Blood pressure and memo devices)

· Assist in Clinical Physiology led & rapid access chest pain clinic exercise testing

· 24 hr ECG Analysis

· Assist in Doctor supervised stress testing

· CPEX exercise testing with full lung function

 · Pacing lab including complex* devices (*with rep support)

· Cardiac Catheter lab

· Support as 2nd Physiologist in Pacing & Complex Clinics

· ECG Monitoring for Adenosine Investigations

Working for our organisation

We operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre. 

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services. 

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses. 

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential criteria
  • BSc Hons Degree Clinical/ Cardiac Physiology or Equivalent
  • Analysis of Holters
  • 2nd in Pacing clinics
  • Angiograms
  • SCST or equivalent for analysis
Desirable criteria
  • Training of juniors
  • Leadership of juniors and trainees
  • ETT and Adenosine
