Job overview

An exciting opportunity for an experienced CSW has arisen  to join the POA team in FGH.  The POA team work with the wider MDT and assess and prepare patients for their elective journey.  The role will involve working under the direction of the POA nurses to ensure that patients are managed through the POA process with care and efficiency.  

You should be a knowledgeable and skilled CSW who is used to working with patients independently and able to recognise signs of an unwell patient and alert the POA nurses as required.

The clinic is run Monday to Friday and at present there is no weekend working.

Main duties of the job

  • Work in support of and under the direction of a Pre-Operative Assessment Nurse, providing nursing care and assistance to patients within defined parameters specified by the Pre-Operative Assessment Nurse (RN).  

  • Record patient information.  

  • Provide basic patient care and document that care in the patient records.  

  • Perform Relevant Clinical Skills: Phlebotomy / ECG 

Working for our organisation

We operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre. 

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services. 

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses. 

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Basic education including English and Maths
  • Completed Trust support worker development programme / NHS care certificate
  • Relevant experience at CSW level
  • Manual handling of patients using aids
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
  • Good basic hygiene
  • Ability to work with people
  • Ability to follow a clear instruction and feed back to senior staff
  • Ability to work as part of a team, as well as on own initiative.
  • Basic IT skills
  • Understands confidentiality
  • Self-motivate, enthusiastic, innovative, flexible, approachable
