Job overview
An exciting vacancy has arisen for an enthusiastic and well-motivated Paediatric Dietitian to join our team of dietitians within the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay. Barrow in Furness is on the South Cumbrian coast within easy reach of the Lake District National Park and offers a wide variety of leisure activities for a positive work life balance.
The successful applicant will work alongside an experienced multi-disciplinary team of Paediatricians, Nurses, Dietitians and Therapists who are responsible for providing a service across social and health care boundaries.
Main duties of the job
The post will cover both inpatient and outpatient work and you will gain experience in a wide range of clinical areas including nutrition support, enteral feeding, gastroenterology, food allergies and feeding problems.
The department is approved for training student dietitians. You will also provide support to junior and support staff within the wider Dietetic team. You will use your knowledge and skills to support the learning and development of MDT colleagues and contribute towards updating protocols and resources. Working for our organisation
We operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
Our Community Service for adults are provided in people's homes ,community centres, clinics, GP Practices, community hospitals. Our aim is to work with people to help them remain independent , improve their health and manage their conditions through high quality care , advice and support.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holder will work independently as an autonomous practitioner providing flexible and patient centred care.
Provides support in the specified clinical area Paediatrics with specialist knowledge, skills and experience to advise and support staff on managing complex paediatric clinical issues for the Dietetic site service and at the other Dietetic sites as required.
To be responsible for managing a caseload of patients with a range of frequently complex conditions, appropriate to specialist knowledge and skill level and experience.
The post holder will take responsibility for the management of their own caseload without direct supervision, whilst continuing to develop specialist clinical skills, knowledge and experience as identified in the post holder’s Performance and Development Plan (PDP).
To support the implementation of service improvement and developments within the Trust Paediatric Dietetic service.
The post holder will undertake clinical and department support duties.

Education & Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Member of HCPC professional registered body
- BSc Degree or Postgraduate Diploma in Dietetics approved by the British Dietetic Association.
Desirable criteria
- Other relevant postgraduate study / training e.g. BDA approved modules
- Accredited training in risk assessment and risk management
- Computer qualification / experience e.g., European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL).
Experience
Essential criteria
- Post registration dietetic experience
- Experience relevant to a paediatric dietetic post
Desirable criteria
- Experience as a supervisor of dietetic staff
- Experience of student training supervision
Applicant requirements
You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
