Job overview

An opportunity has arisen for  Clinical Support Workers to join our family here on Ward 9 and Coniston Suite at Furness General Hospital. 

Ward 9 is a busy medical ward with specialities in gastroenterology and cardiology. The ward also incorporates the  11 bedded refurbished inpatient oncology/haematology suite. We are Gold Standard accredited ward for providing high standards of care for our end of life patients and take pride in our designated maple suite.

Our team pride themselves on exceeding the expectations of our patients and their families and you can be assured of our commitment to your personal and professional development. A full preceptorship package is available to support your needs.

We are looking for caring, enthusiastic and motivated individuals  with previous care experience and flexibility to work shifts including rotation to nights.

Main duties of the job

You will receive structured appraisal, support, mentorship and training.

Successful candidate will be fundamental in supporting our patients in all aspects of care. 

  • Ensure that all care provided by yourself is documented appropriately.
  • Recognise changes in patient condition and report to a RN.
  • Ensure patient dignity and individual patient needs are met.
  • Support RN’s in providing information and advice on health promotion.
  • Instigate emergency procedures e.g. fire; CPR.
  • Act as an effective role model for all ward staff.
  • Assist in ensuring that effective channels are used to canvas the views and concerns of all patients and carers.

Working for our organisation

We operate from three main hospitals -Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Our community services for adults are provided in people’s homes, community centres, clinics, GP Practices, community hospitals and our main hospitals. Our aim is to work with people to help them remain independent, improve their health and manage their conditions through high quality care, advice and support.

Education and qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Good general education
  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills
  • Previous experience in nursing
Desirable criteria
  • Willingness to undertake NVQ level 3 in care related area
  • Completed Trust Support Worker Programme

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous experience of working with the general public
Desirable criteria
  • Manual handling of patients, using lifting aids

Skills, ability and knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Good basic hygiene skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team, as well as on own initiative or with minimal supervision
