Job overview
We are looking for a Occupational Therapist to join the South Cumbria Community Therapy Team, working across intermediate care beds and community therapy. This is as part of a newly integrated Community Therapy Team.
The post holder, working alongside other Clinical Lead Therapy colleagues, will be responsible for managing the deployment and supervision of an integrated therapy team within the Furness area.
Alongside the Intermediate care beds, the service works closely with the Integrated Care Communities, local GP's, Adult Social Care, Advanced Clinical Practitioners and hospital discharge teams. The service supports people with a wide variety of conditions including elderly care, frailty and falls, orthopaedics and long-term condition management.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will have advanced clinical skills of respiratory/mobility/neurological assessment and treatment skills and the ability to holistically manage complex patients both in our 18 bedded intermediate care unit and the coomunity.
With developments in community care there will be opportunities to review practice and develop new ways of working to align with national guidelines. Clinical leadership and development of the service will be at the forefront, leading on service development and delivering training to further develop skills within the speciality.
The post holder will communicate with the MDT to effectively contribute to patient flow through sound knowledge of discharge pathways and community services.
You will have a shared responsibility of management of the Occupational Therapy team, implementing service development in line with current evidence and standards and delivering training for Occupational Therapists, therapy support staff, students and the wider MDT. The role will include some staff management and service management responsibilities such as managing absence and completing annual appraisals.

Working for our organisation
We operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Education and Qualification
Essential criteria
- Health Professions Council registered Occupational Therapist.
- Degree in Occupational Therapy
- Post graduate training in specified clinical area to masters level or equivalent.
- Training in risk assessment and risk management.
- Practice placement educator accreditation.
Desirable criteria
- Leadership and first line management training
- Membership of the British Association of Occupational Therapists.
- Membership of relevant College of Occupational Therapists Specialist Interest Group/s (COT SIG)
Experience
Essential criteria
- Relevant knowledge, skills and experience at OT (Specialist) level working as an experienced autonomous practitioner.
- Post registration experience in a specialist clinical area relevant to this post.
- Experience as a supervisor of students, registered OT’s or support staff or designated health/social care workers.
Desirable criteria
- Leadership and first line management experience.
- Experience of research and clinical audit.
Skills, ability and knowledge
