Audiology NCIC are looking to recruit an Healthcare Science Assistant.
The Acute Audiology service at NCIC treats patients at Carlisle, West Cumberland, Workington and Penrith hospitals.
This role provides an opportunity to work in a friendly and forward-thinking department. It is a great prospect for an individual wanting to gain quality healthcare experience in a supportive environment. The department is committed to developing staff through informal or formal training routes.
The post holder will deliver a competent level of patient care under the supervision and guidance of the Audiology team. They will independently undertake repair clinics for clients with faulty hearing aids. They will assist in the administrative, technical and rehabilitative work of the hearing services provided by the Audiology Department.
Main duties of the job
The post involves the provision of technical and administrative support to Healthcare Scientists/Assistant Audiologists working within the Acute Audiology service at NCIC.
The post is based at the Cumberland Infirmary the job holder will assist the qualified staff in the treatment and rehabilitation of hearing impaired clients of all ages. Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team the post holder will be responsible for a variety of tasks ranging from general equipment maintenance and hearing aid repairs to clerical and administrative duties.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- GCSE Grade C/4 in Maths, English and Science
- 2 GCE A levels one in a science subject
- NVQ level 3 in Health and Social care
Desirable criteria
- 5 GCSEs (Grade C/4 or above)
Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of dealing with the public
- Interest in Healthcare
- Experience with the use of computers and database operation
Desirable criteria
- Experience of face to face contact in a healthcare environment
- Experience of dealing with hearing impaired people
- Knowledge of hearing aids/Deaf awareness issues
Skills and Aptitudes
Essential criteria
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to deal with emotional and challenging subject matter with tact and sensitivity
- Good telephone manner
- Good level of computer literacy
- Fine manual dexterity
- Ability to work effectively without direct supervision and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
