GP with Special Interest in Ear, Nose & Throat

NHS Medical & Dental: Salaried GP

Job overview

We are seeking an experienced and motivated General Practitioner with a Special Interest (GPwSI) in Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) to join our expanding team at North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust (NCIC). This is a unique opportunity to deliver high-quality, specialist ENT care in a community setting while playing a key role in improving patient pathways and supporting service integration between primary and secondary care.

Based within our outpatient clinics, the post-holder will work autonomously within their clinical competence, supported by the Trust's ENT consultant team. This role is ideal for a GP who is passionate about developing innovative, patient-centred services and keen to contribute to the transformation of ENT care across North Cumbria.

Main duties of the job

  • Deliver outpatient ENT clinics (typically two sessions per week), providing assessment, diagnosis and management of a wide range of ENT presentations.

  • Triage incoming referrals and offer timely Advice & Guidance to primary care colleagues to support decision-making and reduce unnecessary secondary care referrals.

  • Perform appropriate clinical interventions (e.g. micro-suction, flexible nasal endoscopy) as part of commissioned service delivery.

  • Work closely with the ENT consultant team and community service providers to deliver integrated care pathways aligned with local population needs.

  • Provide training and educational support to GPs, practice nurses, and wider primary care colleagues to improve ENT knowledge and capability within general practice.

  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of ENT services through clinical audit, quality improvement, and participation in service development projects.

  • Engage with multidisciplinary teams including audiology, vestibular physiotherapy, and speech and language therapy to support holistic patient care.

Working for our organisation

At NCIC, we have an ambition to deliver outstanding healthcare services to the population of North Cumbria.  The Trust is committed to creating a centre of excellence in providing rural and remote healthcare and provides a wide range of community and acute services throughout our county.

Our 5 key principles demonstrate our belief in the delivery of ‘safe, high quality care every time':

  • Being a clinically led organisation
  • Quality and safety at the heart of our Trust
  • A positive patient experience every time
  • A great place to work
  • Managing our money well

As an organisation we are serious about supporting a diverse workforce that reflects our local community and are very much focused on being an inclusive and compassionate place to work.

Across the North East and North Cumbria we are working together to deliver our ambition to be the greenest region in England by 2030. All staff are expected to support sustainability.
