Job overview

The End of Life Care Education Team sits within the NCIC Bereavement Service. We are excited to have the opportunity to increase our education support for staff which will build on the strong foundation of education and development already in place.

Under the leadership direction of the End of Life Clinical Educator, the role will support the ongoing education improvement activity across the Trust specific to end of life care. 

 Support the roll out of the end of life education programme. The aim of which is  to reduce variation in care standards across the Trust clinical teams and develop confidence in skills in relation to fundamentals of comfort  care, knowledge and practical support in the ward/team setting.  

This requires perceptiveness to situation and adaptability, as the role involves supporting staff with different levels of experience and understanding in the fundamental aspects of end of life care.

You will need to have experience of supporting both physical and psychological aspects of  care in end of life situations as will be working alongside staff in care delivery.

Disclosure and Barring Service:

On 28 November 2020, the new Disclosure and Barring Service filtering rules will come into effect.

The changes mean that:               

  • youth cautions, reprimands and final warnings will no longer be subject to automatic disclosure
  • the multiple conviction rule has been removed, meaning that if an individual has more than one conviction, regardless of offence type or time passed, each conviction will be considered against the remaining rules individually, rather than being automatically disclosed.

Please note the cost of the DBS check is increasing from 2nd December and the new cost will be

Standard DBS check £21.50, Enhanced DBS check £49.50 + any admin costs.

The cost of the DBS must be met by the successful candidate(s) through salary deduction. DBS charges are as follows if applicable to the post:

 

Standard Check: £18 + Administration cost of £3.85 = £21.85. Deducted at £6.85 from 1st month salary and £5 deducted from salary over following 3 months.

Enhanced Check: £38 + administration cost of £3.90 = £41.90. Deducted at £11.90 from 1st month salary and £10 deducted from salary over following 3 months.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GCSE English and Maths or equivalent
  • National Care Certificate
  • NVQ 4 in care or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Teaching/assessing qualification
  • Certificate or equivalent, related to end of life or bereavement care

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience working in the clinical environment delivering end of life care
  • Knowledge of simple project management and engaging people in change management approaches
  • Ability to meet fundamental care needs of patients who are at the end of their life and their loved ones
  • Ability to maintain and improve knowledge, skills and competence to ensure high standards of end of life care
  • Demonstrable understanding of confidentiality
  • Good IT skills
  • Knowledge of services that support patients and families in end of life care
  • Insight into the 5 priorities of care of the dying person
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of best practice guidance in end of life care, for example One Chance to Get it Right, Deciding Right, NICE Guidelines
