Job overview
To act as an ambassador for the department, influence end users’ and ensure all queries and complaints are dealt with effectively and within a professional and positive way.
Main duties of the job
Main Duties
Supervise and organise the workload and motivate a customer facing Materials Management team to provide a professional supply chain and logistics service across Theatres across Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle and West Cumberland Hospital, Whitehaven.
Lead in the implementation and maintenance of a materials managed service, undertaking the day-to-day ordering activity on behalf of the customer.
Replenishing goods at ward and departmental level using bar code systems as appropriate. Receive, check and put away deliveries ordered via the materials management service.
General tidiness of store areas will form part of a supervisor’s review of the team member’s areas.
Carrying out quarterly reviews with appropriate theatre / department leads, using system information to illustrate spending patterns identifying products and stock levels.
Assist team members with carrying out quarterly reviews by attending at least two meetings per annum with each team member under supervision.
Act as a ‘Super User’ for Materials Management systems and processes.
Keep all associated paperwork regularly updated in line with code and location changes.
Assist with the provision of cover to other areas of the Materials Management Team when necessary, ensuring this is adequate in times of leave and sickness.
Ensure compliance with Trust Standing Financial Instruction and policies.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- GCSE level Mathematics and English or equivalent
- NVQ Level 3 Qualification
- Working towards Institute of Supply Chain Management Course (Level 3 or above) qualification or equivalent
- Relevant experience in logistics / supply chain environment
- Continued professional development of Procurement and/or Business-related courses
Desirable criteria
- EBSM/ILM Supervisory qualification or equivalent
Knowledge & Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of working within a customer facing environment.
- Experience of day-to-day supervising and co-ordination and support development of staff.
- Experience of procure 2 pay (P2P) such as Oracle and Inventory Management Systems.
- Experience of engagement with clinical and non- clinical stakeholders at different levels both internally and externally.
Desirable criteria
- Involvement in NHS Logistics / Inventory Management
- Ability to understand NHS issues and operational activities.
- Experience of working in both private and public sector organisations.
Skills & Ability
Essential criteria
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Computer literate with detailed knowledge of basic computer packages including Microsoft Word,
- Excel and Internet based systems
- Ability to analyse complex information, interpret in a clear, comprehensive format.
- Ability to use own initiative and ability to prioritise and problem solve.
- Strong Interpersonal skills, negotiation skills, influential and assertive with tactand diplomacy.
