Job overview
The Trust’s portering teams support the provision of a timely and reliable service to all wards, departments and specialist areas throughout the Trust’s two main acute Hospital sites, the West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven and the Cumberland Infirmary at Carlisle.
Porters are involved with a wide range of ancillary duties and responsibilities which centre on the movement of patients, waste, medical gases, pathological items and all other specialist goods or equipment required to aid clinical services in the delivery of safe and responsive patient care.
Day Porters deliver a range of portering functions in support of the existing Shift Team in order to distribute the increased workloads demanded by the vast majority of departments during standard working hours. Working patterns will be reviewed periodically to ensure service delivery is both adequate and appropriately reflected through existing rota.
Main duties of the job
Undertake careful and considerate movement of pharmacy products via trolley whilst maintaining correct moving and handling guidelines
Maintain high standard of hygiene in line with Trust’s hygiene code of practice and comply with infection control procedures at all times.
Undertake the movement and disposal of all waste streams, in accordance with prescribed methods, procedures and current legislation, from department areas to the appropriate waste compound(s).
Aid with the delivery and collection of all in hours collections and deliveries across a day period for pharmacy departments. This includes assisting the drivers with access, loading/unloading of vehicle and gaining signature or paperwork where required. Routinely check, and deliver controlled drugs to all wards/departments.
Including the correct management and filing of paperwork, to be signed by correct senior clinical staff and returned to pharmacy. Management of workload and stock for storage i.e blue pharmacy boxes to be collected and reused for following shift.
Perform a wide range of ad-hoc duties, or other reasonable management requests, under instruction from direct line-management.
Undertake routine and ad-hoc collection and delivery of items such as pharmaceutical items, sensitive patient case notes and other patient care related materials promptly and efficiently.
