An exciting opportunity has arisen at North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust for a pharmacist with drive and enthusiasm to join our dynamic pharmacy team supporting our service to patients in our virtual wards. The Clinical Pharmacy Service is well established and provides high quality care across a variety of specialties.  Are you ready to be at the forefront of service development?  

The  Advanced Specialist Pharmacist for virtual wards is the lead pharmacist for the provision of comprehensive clinical pharmacy services to the virtual wards.  You will be embedded in the multidisciplinary team providing care to respiratory, cardiology and frailty patients in the virtual wards. 

We are looking for someone who has extensive clinical pharmacy knowledge and experience, and the ability to work with a multidisciplinary team. You will need to have excellent communication, clinical and negotiation skills, as well as experience of supervising other staff, providing education and training.

The candidates must have or be prepared to work towards a non-medical prescribing qualification to support the service.

Part time roles/ flexible working/ job share will be considered

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • The leadership and proactive development of specialist clinical pharmacy services
  • Providing highly specialist clinical pharmacy services to patients and developing services in line with appropriate national standards.
  • Providing expert and highly specialised pharmaceutical information and advice to medical staff, nursing staff, other healthcare professionals and patients, both within the Trust and externally as appropriate.
  • To work as an independent prescriber to ensure patient medication is optimised for each admission
  • Work collaboratively with other clinicians and health-care providers to implement and maintain innovative disease management programs and clinical pharmacy services
  • Providing clinical training, guidance, support and supervision of junior pharmacists, pre-registration trainees, other Pharmacy staff and other Trust staff as required.
  • Promoting the medicines optimisation agenda by leading specific audit and research projects in the agreed specialty and provide support to others.
  • Monitoring expenditure within the agreed specialty against drugs budget, identifying and implementing cost saving initiatives.
  • Evaluating and expanding the role of pharmacy services within our medical care areas, as well as delivering the required medication safety and governance agendas.

Knowledge

Essential criteria

Qualifications
