Job overview

You will work as part of the Ophthalmology Department Team to provide a high quality ophthalmology service that aims to provide excellent patient care. This post will support the specialist at the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust. This is a 10 PA job plan. In addition there is a requirement to cover 5 hour Saturday and Sunday emergency clinics on a 1:10 rota with the other SAS doctors in the department and take part in the 1:10 on call rota as specified above

 

We are seeking a Speciality Doctor to join the current Ophthalmology team in the Trust,  the post will be based at Westmorland General Hospital.

You will work Cross Bay with Westmorland General Hospital as the main site. You will be contracted for 10 sessions per week.

This post will consist of Theatres, Clinics and On-call cover for the provision of the service and additional time for professional progression.

This posts will support CESR work and rotation in different sub-specialties might be expected.

Working for our organisation

We operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre. 

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services. 

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses. 

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice
  • Entry on the GMC specialist register or be within six months of obtaining your CCT at the time of interview
  • FRCS or an equivalent appropriate higher surgical qualification
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of audit and research experience
  • Higher professional qualifications in Ophthalmology, Teaching or Research
  • Higher professional qualifications in Postgraduate research or Education

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience in specialist field of practice.
  • Experience of providing clinical supervision.
  • Experience of teaching/training/mentoring others
Desirable criteria
  • Formal teaching qualification
