Job overview
An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic registered general nurse to join the Acute Frailty team at Lancaster.
This role will support, education and assistance the staff to maintain safety. This is an ideal opportunity to join the frailty team and provide high standards of care for our frailty patients
You will be expected to provide supervision and support to the nurses in order to provide safe and effective care for our older patients.
Applicants must has clinical experience of caring for acutely unwell frail and medical patients
Main duties of the job
An exciting opportunity for an experienced nurse cover in the role of band 6 Clinical Leader based on the acute frailty unit at Royal Lancaster Infirmary.
It will provide a fantastic opportunity for an individual to be involved in the frailty strategy and will play a fundamental role in the division’s vision for consistent delivery of safe and high quality patient care in a timely manner.
You will be a strong communicator and dedicated team player, with demonstrable leadership skills able to work both autonomously and as part of a team
You will be required to have a solid clinical background, with the expertise to safely manage and support the ward team, to care for acutely unwell elderly patients.
You will bring enthusiasm, energy and utilising lateral thinking skills when required.
The post is rotational across days and nights.
Working for our organisation
We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Education & Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse
- Recent post basic clinical qualification in relevant clinical area
- Mentoring/assessing qualification or teaching qualification e.g City & Guilds, Professional Trainers Certificate
Desirable criteria
- Recent leadership development or willingness to work towards a leadership qualification
- ECDL or equivalent
Experience
Essential criteria
- Recent relevant experience at senior level within the speciality
- Evidence of Clinical competence in speciality
- Able to assume a lead clinical role as appropriate
- Understanding of the setting and monitoring of standards
- Evidence of teaching and developing staff
- Able to work as a member of the multidisciplinary clinical team
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of leadership skills
- Evidence of training in specialist field of frailty

- Demonstrable appropriate/specific clinical skills to designated area
