Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the North Lancashire and South Cumbria Breast Screening Team within University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust, as an administrator.

The post is full-time (37.5 hours per week) and is a permanent position based in the breast screening unit at Royal Lancaster Infirmary. Working days are Monday -Friday with start times of 08:00 or 08:30 and 17:00 or 16:30 finish depending on rota duties.

We are looking for evidence of team working as well as the ability to work independently. Someone who can maintain effective relationships with colleagues across the organisation. Exceptional organisational skills and an ability to focus on, and pay close attention to detail is essential to this role, where long periods of concentration are required.

The candidate must have previous administrative experience, excellent communication skills and have experience of using information systems and Microsoft Office packages.

The department is a busy but friendly department and has a strong team environment, with staff needing to cross cover and support each other.

Main duties of the job

Provide an excellent customer service to service users, members of the public and other external stakeholders.

Provide a flexible resource to support the Programme Manager and Administration Manager, in providing an efficient administrative service.

Participating in a wide range of administrative duties, which include the coordination of the patient pathway for the NHS Breast Screening Programme and symptomatic service, acting as lead administrator on a rotational basis, booking appointments and processing results. The post holder will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and will provide a wide range of administrative support to the breast screening team.

The post holder will contribute to the effective operation of the call/recall process using the national breast screening system, adhering to national and local guidelines. This will include organisation of own and other team members work.

Working for our organisation

We operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre. 

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services. 

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses. 

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
