Medical Appraisal and Revalidation Admin Support Assistant
NHS AfC: Band 3
''Creating a great place to be cared for and a great place to work''
University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay has a firm commitment to strengthening the diversity of our workforce, and therefore welcome and encourage applications from likeminded people who can support our ambition to become effortlessly inclusive. We are particularly keen to hear from protected groups – including BAME, LGBT+ and people with a disability.
Job overview
Due to a team restructure, a new post has been created within the Medical Appraisal and Revalidation team for an enthusiastic and organised Administrative Assistant to join this small and friendly team which supports all UHMB employed doctors with their annual appraisal and 5 yearly GMC Revalidation renewals. This role is part-time, based at the RLI, but involves cross-bay work. We are part of the Chief Medical Officer's wider team.
The General Medical Council's Revalidation process requires doctors to constantly develop their clinical practice, drive improvement in clinical governance, and gives patients confidence that the doctors are up to date with their knowledge and skills. This involves detailed annual appraisals and self-reflection. Revalidation is new to the NHS, having only been introduced in 2012 to improve the regulation of doctors holding a licence to practise.
Main duties of the job
Working in Medical Appraisal and Revalidation is a specialised, confidential, and sometimes challenging role. The Postholder needs good all-round administration skills, feel comfortable dealing with medical staff at all levels, must be trustworthy, polite, kind, and deal appropriately with often sensitive and confidential situations. We provide an exemplary service to our stakeholders, including local hospices and private hospitals.
Working for our organisation
You must be comfortable working in a very small team, and occasionally alone. The wider team is very supportive and together we enjoy a diverse and positive working atmosphere.
We operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
