Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and self-motivated Advanced Paediatric Dietitian to join the Nutrition and Dietetic Service in University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust.  The post is based at Royal Lancaster Hospital with a requirement to travel to support our cross bay dietetic team.

If you are a motivated, flexible and forward-thinking experienced Paediatric Dietician who is ready to advance their professional and clinical development in a more senior role we would love to hear from you.

We are in a process of transformational change in this service, so it is an exciting time to join us as an agent of change, leading improving quality of care for our patients, effective use of our resources and supporting staff wellbeing.

Therefore, clinical evidence-based knowledge of paediatric dietetics, alongside a passion and commitment to leadership and management, service development and facilitation of learning and practitioner wellbeing is fundamental.

You will have compassionate communication skills with a proactive approach to problem solving and implementation of innovative solutions within an evolving dietetics landscape. This ensures a responsive, needs-based approach to holistic patient centred care. The service is aligned to and contributes to a range of regional networks in the Lancashire and South Cumbria ICB.

Main duties of the job

The post will cover both inpatient and outpatient work and you will responsible for managing a complex caseload covering a wide range of clinical areas including nutrition support, enteral feeding, gastroenterology, food allergies and feeding problems for infants, children and young people.

We work very closely with the entire paediatric MDT, including consultants, specialist nurses, ward and support staff as well as health visitors, children’s community nurses and speech and language therapists.

This post offers excellent opportunities for professional and personal development. You will have the opportunity to lead on audit and also be involved in student training.

We can offer flexible working patterns and working days/hours.

Applicants must be HCPC registered dietitians.

Working for our organisation

We operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Anyone newly appointed to the trust will be subject to the completion of a satisfactory 6 month probationary period. This will give the new staff member an opportunity to become familiar with the role and working environment.
