Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 8a Nurse Endoscopist to join our established team of Nurse Endoscopists at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay.
This role provides the opportunity for an experienced and highly motivated individual to deliver a professional Nurse Endoscopist service. Working across bay within our services at Lancaster, Kendal and Barrow, you will deliver patient centred care, in line with best practice guidelines. There will be opportunity to enhance and develop your knowledge and endoscopy skills with full support from the wider team, dependent on the specialist area that you may wish to pursue.
Practice is supported and development is encouraged, by our team of Consultant Gastroenterologists and Colorectal Surgeons. Each member of the team also has additional roles, along with endoscopy, including: Bowel Cancer Screening Endoscopists, GI bleed rota, training lead, clinical lead and the Rapid Diagnostic Pathway for suspected lower GI cancer. The successful candidates will be encouraged to develop their skills and pursue their interests in areas to develop the service, in line with national recommendations and innovations.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be expected to deliver an endoscopic service carrying out gastroscopy, sigmoidoscopy and colonoscopy procedures to a JAG accredited standard. You must demonstrate specific skills in disorders of the GI tract, including diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic techniques, appropriate management and subsequent follow up.
The post holder will act as an excellent clinical role model and work to continuously improve clinical care standards in line with the clinical governance framework, assisting the individual unit managers, nursing staff and the leadership team to coordinate aspects of audit in relation to both local and national criteria set for the development of Endoscopy Units including JAG and GRS requirements.

Working for our organisation
We operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
Our Community Service for adults are provided in people's homes ,community centres, clinics, GP Practices, community hospitals. Our aim is to work with people to help them remain independent , improve their health and manage their conditions through high quality care , advice and support.

Education
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse
- Jag accreditation in upper and lower GI endoscopic procedures
- Relevant academia to support role of Nurse endoscopist
Desirable criteria
- Master level Education
- Non medical prescribing qualification
- JETS train the trainer
- BCSP accreditation
