Job overview
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Antenatal and Newborn screening team based within University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay.
The post holder will support the maternity screening leads in the implementation and co-ordination of all key objectives in relation to the Antenatal and Newborn Screening (ANNB) Programmes for Morcambe Bay Trust. Please note this post is Cross Bay and support in screening will be required across all 3 sites.
Main duties of the job
To provide an effective and professional service and care to patients ensuring that the highest of standards are maintained at all times.
The post holder will be required to analyse and deliver positive screening results to women. Provide support and information in relation to further testing and options available.
Be able to perform phlebotomy when required for facilitation of screening tests.
To ensure that the results are interpreted accurately and necessary action is taken as a result.
Ensure appropriate policies, procedures and guidelines are adhered to, contributing to guideline update when required.
To ensure that appropriate advice, guidance and support is provided to all users, where the information is complex, highly sensitive and delicate where there may be significant barriers to understanding.
To effectively support patients through the delivery of very difficult news recognising individual social and domestic circumstances. To ensure all information is communicated sensitively and objectively to allow appropriate decisions to be made.
To provide regular training in both formal and informal settings, providing evidence based advice and support in own speciality to other professionals e.g. mandatory training day, 1:1 training etc.
To ensure that all appropriate medical records and/or test results are appropriately documented in accordance with Trust policies.
Gain knowledge and experience in maintaining screening failsafe processes.
Working for our organisation
We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

- Registered Nurse/Midwife/Health visitor/audiologist ·
- Degree qualification or evidence of significant post registration education
- Qualified Hearing Screener
- Screener Assessor Qualification
- Extensive knowledge of National Hearing Screening Pathway/Standards
- Advanced IT skills
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of ongoing professional development
- Previous project management experience/service development
- Experience of leading change management
- Any specialist training
- NVQ assessor
- Previous experience managing a screening team in the NHS
