Job overview

We are excited to announce an opportunity for a dedicated and motivated individual to join our Pharmacy Stores team at Royal Lancaster Infirmary.

We are forward thinking and focused on delivering the highest quality of services for our patients.

The successful applicant will receive full training and be supported in completing their NVQ Level 2 Apprenticeship in Pharmacy Services.

This will put them in an excellent position should they wish to apply for any future Level 3 Pharmacy Apprenticeship where they will gain nationally recognised qualifications and be able to register as a Pharmacy Technician. In addition, there will be more job prospects and the choice to work either in a community pharmacy or in a private or public hospital pharmacy.

Main duties of the job

Working Pattern is Monday to Friday 9:00 to 17:30 with weekend and Bank Holiday work as part of a rotation. 

Previous Pharmacy experience is not essential but we require applicants to have competent IT skills and good basic education including English and Maths to GCSE level.

You will be working in a busy Pharmacy store, receiving and issuing stock items, providing safe, timely, appropriate, cost-effective and high-quality pharmaceutical services

Main Duties 

To adhere to legislation, national and local standards and procedures in all tasks performed.

To participate in the introduction and use of new technology and techniques in accordance with the needs of the service. 

To work as a member of the pharmacy team to provide safe, timely, appropriate and high-quality pharmaceutical services covering reception purchasing and distribution.

To acquire with training, a working knowledge of the pharmacy computer system in order to use as required following departmental policies and procedures.

To maintain stock and consumable levels ensuring stock rotation within designated areas in accordance with procedures.

To perform general tidying and non-domestic cleaning duties in the department as needed, ensuring the safe disposal of waste.

To have awareness of COSHH (Control of substances hazardous to health) regulations for the storage handling and disposal of pharmaceutical products.

Working for our organisation

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life-threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Education and qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Good basic education to GCSE level or equivalent - Including numeracy & literacy
  • Willing to work towards NVQ 2 and BTEC – Pharmacy services
Desirable criteria
  • Willing to work towards NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services

Experience
