Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and caring Radiology Support Worker to join our friendly and dynamic Radiology team at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary.
This role offers an excellent opportunity for an organised, empathetic individual with good communication and interpersonal skills to contribute to high-quality patient care within a busy hospital imaging environment. You will work alongside Radiographers and Sonographers in the X-ray, Ultrasound, and Centenary Radiology Departments, supporting the safe and efficient delivery of imaging services.
Previous experience in a healthcare or administrative setting is desirable but not essential, as full training will be provided.
Main duties of the job

Welcome and prepare patients for imaging examinations in a professional and reassuring manner.

Accurately register and update patient and examination details on the Radiology IT system.

Support Radiographers and Sonographers in clinical areas, including chaperoning and general patient care.

Answer telephone and in-person queries from patients, staff, and external referrers.

Contribute to maintaining a safe, clean, and efficient departmental environment.

Working for our organisation
We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Education and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Good General Education with GCSE Maths and English at grade C/4 or above.
- Good Command of English Language

- Available to work Nights/Weekends/Bank Holidays on a rota basis as required
