Job overview

The Urology unit is looking for caring, compassionate and motivated individual to join our team of Consultants, Doctors, Nurses and admin staff.  We have the privilege of providing care for a variety of patients, and work closely as a team across the bay, to ensure all patients receive exceptional care. Main duties of the job

The main duties of the role consist of performing independent Urodynamic studies. As well as, leading the Urology out-patient clinics and supporting patients in their outpatient pathway. 

Staff must be willing to learn new skills to enhance their own development and benefit the department. 

This role will require the ability to communicate and empathise with people living with Urological conditions, and to be compassionate in sensitive situations. 

The following outlines the main duties: 

  • Leading of the smooth running of out-patient clinics 

  • Being the lead registered nurse on site. 

  • Responsibility for Audits and health and safety.  

  • Communication and emotional support of the patient 

  • Leading a one stop clinic by navigating the patients through tests and procedures. 

  • Supporting senior clinicians with their independent clinics.  

  • Utilising trust IT systems 

  • Performing clinical skills with suitable training, such as assisting a flexible cystoscopy lists, independent catheter clinics, precision point biopsy, Urodynamics clinics, ISC.

  • Responsibility and training of junior staff, both RN's and CSW's. Including management responsibilities. 

  • Ability to move with the demands of the service 

  • Providing advice and guidance for patients and healthcare professionals. 

Working for our organisation

We operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre. 

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services. 

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses. 

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Knowledge and experience

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of working in a team and the wider MDT
  • Evidence of teaching, mentoring and assessing Junior staff
  • Experience of undertaking audit
  • Understanding of clinical governance and its application
Desirable criteria
  • Assisting and treating patients with Urological conditions
  • Experience of leading a small team
  • 5 years post registration experience
