We are looking for enthusiastic, highly self-motivated individuals to join the Pharmacy team as pre-registration trainee Pharmacy Technicians (PTPT).  As a PTPT you would join us for a two year Pharmacy Technician apprenticeship programme, resulting in a BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians.  This will involve studying one day a week via distance learning with Bradford College, and undertaking regular workplace assessments.

On completion of the Pharmacy Technician Training Programme you will be required to register with the General Pharmaceutical Council.

Pharmacy technicians are vital members of todays healthcare team and contribute greatly to the safe supply of medicines, ensuring patient safety and improving patient outcomes.

A Pharmacy Technician is responsible for carrying out both routine and specialist services, including highly complex activities requiring them to use their professional judgement. They are expected to work both individually and as part of a multi-disciplinary team. They are able to work with minimum supervision, with a high degree of autonomy, taking responsibility for the quality and accuracy of the work that they have undertaken and that of others.

Main duties of the job

Our PTPTs support medicines supply and optimisation throughout the Trust. You will need to demonstrate that you are a team player, a proactive learner and are able to plan and organise your own workload. You need to be flexible in your approach to work and have good attention to detail. Excellent communication skills are a must and most importantly a professional attitude and patient centred approach.

During your training you will be involved in supporting the efficient running of the dispensary, helping to prioritise work and solve problems.  You will dispense prescriptions and issue prescribed items and contribute to all aspects of pharmaceutical stock control.

You will gain experience working on the hospital inpatient wards delivering pharmacy ward based services. You will take patient medication histories, assess patient's own drugs and educate patients on how optimise their medicines.

You will gain the knowledge and skills required to final accuracy check dispensed medicines and products.
