An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the West Cumberland Hospital Pharmacy Department as a Rotational Pharmacy Technician.

The successful candidate will undertake technical duties under the supervision of a lead pharmacy technician and the 
professional direction of a pharmacist. They will also ensure efficient supply or preparation of pharmaceuticals to wards and outpatients.

Main duties of the job

  • Dispense pharmaceutical preparations for in-patients, outpatients and discharge prescriptions, including label generation using the pharmacy computer system.
  • Participate in the pharmacy technician rota in accordance with the needs of the department.
  • Provide a medicines management service to patients of NCIC under the supervision of a medicines management technician and Pharmacist.
  • Maintain CPD and comply with requirements for pharmacy technician registration.
  • Advise nursing staff on the safe handling and storage of medicines.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • You must be a registered pharmacy technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) and will have:
  • • NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Pharmacy Services Skills (Competence) or equivalent and
  • • Level 3 Diploma in Pharmaceutical Science (Knowledge) or equivalent.
Desirable criteria
  • A1 NVQ assessors award, or equivalent.
  • Microsoft Applications e.g. Word, Excel and Outlook.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • A range of technical pharmaceutical duties during training.
Desirable criteria
  • Top-up procedures.
  • Individual patient dispensing systems.
  • Working in an aseptic services / sterile manufacturing unit within a hospital environment.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • In-house distribution checking pack, or equivalent.
  • In-house ward services training pack or equivalent.
Desirable criteria
  • Aseptic Services training pack or equivalent.

Skills and Aptitudes

  • Good technical skills across a full range of duties
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to adapt to different situations readily.
