Senior Specialist Oxygen Nurse AHP/ Team Lead NCHOS

Band 7, Permanent, Full-Time - 37.5 hours

To manage all aspects of North Cumbria Home Oxygen Service (NCHOS) in accordance with National and regional guidelines, and providing effective clinical leadership to facilitate the delivery of the highest standard of patient care. Promote the role of NCHOS in North Cumbria and be responsible for advocating the safe prescribing of home Oxygen therapy to all patients in the region. Provide expertise and advice to the NCHOS team, non-specialist staff prescribing Oxygen and other relevant parties. 

Main duties of the job

  • Be accountable for own professional actions as the Lead Specialist in Home Oxygen prescribing and provision in North Cumbria.
  • Develop strategies to enable a professional challenge to unsafe practise in Oxygen prescribing by non-specialist HCPs.
  • To be responsible for the assessment, development and provision of specialised programmes of care for all home Oxygen patients in North Cumbria, being accountable for the direct delivery of this care by NCHOS staff.
  • To be provide expert specialist knowledge across the entire sphere of provision of home oxygen therapy, this being underpinned by theory garnered from appropriate professional training, experience and short courses.
  • Be responsible for the planning of nurse led Oxygen clinics across community sites in North Cumbria to meet the demands of the population.
  • Provide excellent clinical leadership and management skills to ensure the effective delivery of patient focused care and resources within the remit of the department and within the parameters of agreed Trust policies and guidelines.
  • Have responsibility for the day to day management of NCHOS including line management of all team members.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered nurse or AHP with current registration
  • Post registration certificate in clinical speciality or substantial equivalent clinical experience working with an Oxygen team
  • Have undertaken training, development and short courses in line with Speciality
Desirable criteria
  • Respiratory diploma/degree qualification.
  • Understanding of unique challenges to HOSAR in North Cumbria
  • Management / leadership certificate or substantial equivalent experience

  • Expert professional knowledge of Oxygen service delivery
  • Expert professional knowledge of safe Oxygen prescribing and care of patients receiving Oxygen therapy with long term physical health needs
