Job overview

A new role within the Digital Directorate, the Head of Digital Business Change and Benefits will be an integral part of the Wider Digital Leadership Team. This role is essential for enabling a more user-centred, inclusive and problem-first approach to digital innovation and transformation, enhancing adoption of digital solutions and measuring impact of our initiatives.

The postholder will be expected to provide leadership and expertise both within the directorate and across WAST in relation to digital change management, inclusive engagement, co-designing transformation activities, digital inclusion and health equity. To do this, the postholder will need to proactively engage across the organisation with strong influencing, partnership and relationship-building skills.

This postholder will be required to deputise for the Assistant Director Digital (Innovation and Transformation) or provide cross-cover for other members of the Wider Digital Leadership Team as required. They will also line manage several roles within the Digital Innovation and Transformation Team.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

The Head of Digital Business Change and Benefits will be responsible for developing and delivering a structured lifecycle and governance framework for identifying, testing, evaluating, scaling or retiring new digital technologies and service models. This will include responsibility for the business change associated with such projects, ensuring that capability is embedded into the Trust’s business operations to ensure solutions are put to best use. It is essential for this role to work in partnership to co-design and embed innovation mindsets into cultures, leadership behaviours and day to day practice.

This role is part of our new dynamic Digital Innovation and Transformation Team at the Welsh Ambulance Service NHS University Foundation Trust. This team is at the forefront of driving our digital transformation strategy, focusing on innovative solutions to enhance service delivery and operational efficiency. We aim to optimise existing processes while integrating new technologies to deliver impactful, scalable improvements. Our team prioritises user experience and service design, ensuring that our solutions are intuitive, inclusive, and accessible. Additionally, this team will support change management, continuous improvement, and evaluation to foster a culture of ongoing development and excellence.
