Main duties of the job
University Hospital of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust is looking for dynamic, enthusiastic doctors to join their Trust at middle grade level. A busy, progressive, forward thinking hospital, rated 'Good' by the CQC in 2019, we invite you to join the medical team at Royal Derby Hospital and Queen's Hospital Burton.
We would like to offer you opportunities in bone health, falls and general DME to increase your out-patient experience, build upon the skills you already have and work in our busy yet friendly department.
Support and training will be available.
You will receive supervision, access to an Eportfolio and be encouraged to join the established teaching programmes. We can offer PACES training if needed and where possible, offer opportunities to complete the ‘alternative certificate’ ready for higher training applications.
You will have £500 and five days (pro rata) for study leave and subject to individual requirements. We will perform your annual appraisal.
The postholders will either be based at the RDH or QHB sites, or rotate across both.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Based at the Royal Derby Hospital (RDH) and working at either RDH, Queen's Hospital Burton (QHB) or rotating across both, we are appointing to our senior clinical fellow (ST4 equivalent level) posts within our Department of Medicine for the Elderly team. This will be a full-time or part time, fixed-term service appointment for 1-year fixed term with a possibility of extension.
You will be based within the Department of Medicine for the Elderly and work with consultants, advanced care practitioners (ACPs), Therapists and Discharge Support Officers to deliver a responsive service to medical patients throughout the hospital. Your speciality team will give you consistent support and further learning opportunities.
There will be an element of out of hours work, including evenings and weekends, providing registrar cover for the Medical out of hours or Renal HDUs at RDH on a 1:7 basis and QHB on a 1:9 basis. Where you are on call depends upon your placement/rotation. The 1st on call middle grade rota at QHB consists of day cover (0900 – 2130) and night cover (2100- 0930) with a handover at the start and end of the shifts. You will be responsible for managing the medical take and will lead the junior doctor on call team and resus team.
There is consultant presence on site for the take 0800-2100 seven days a week. Overnight supervision by consultants is from home. Until 2400 each night there are two middle grades in the hospital.

Essential criteria
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- Advanced Life Support certification
- MRCP or equivalent higher qualification
Desirable criteria
- Additional higher medical/scientific degree relevant to the specialty
Eligibility

- Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice at time of application
- Completed at least four years’ full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis)
- Minimum 6 months NHS experience within the last 2 years
- Relevant specialty clinical knowledge
Teaching experience
Essential criteria
- Evidence & Experience of supervising and teaching resident doctors and medical students
- Ability to & experience of teaching clinical skills
Desirable criteria
- Any teaching courses or qualifications
- Evidence of leadership skills
Audit/Research Experience

- Evidence and ability to assess & apply evidence-based research into every day clinical practice
