Job overview

We are proud of our Maternity Service at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust (UHDB). As a service we strive to improve the experience for our expectant's mothers and their families through listening to our service users and support from our Trust board through significant financial investment in service improvement and recruitment.

The Maternity Services works in partnership with the Local Maternity and Neonatal Systems (LMNS) to drive the national maternity agenda forward to improve the safety and quality of our services.

Due to the additional investment received within the maternity services we are increasing our practice develpment team to include a Fetal Monitoring and Wellbeing (CTG) Lead.

This is an exciting opportunity for a registered midwife to lead on fetal monitoring practice and education across UHDB.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will lead on continuous improvements to the use and application of fetal monitoring across UHDB. They will lead on the education/training of fetal monitoring, developing and embedding new strategies and sharing knowledge informally and formally. They will be skilled and confident to act as a professional resource for colleagues, stakeholders and service users. They will develop and maintain robust policies and guidance which explores practice changes and emerging evidence.

The post holder will be required to work Trust wide so a driving licence is essential.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The successful candidate will provide clinical expertise in fetal monitoring; overseeing and leading education and training for all clinicians involved with fetal monitoring; and exploring emerging evidence, recommendations and new ways of using fetal monitoring to achieve the best outcomes for families.

The successful candidate will have thorough knowledge of fetal monitoring and will be engaging, passionate and confident sharing knowledge. A keen interest in fetal monitoring is essential, along with a sound understanding of current drivers and knowledge that influences practice and practice changes.

Education, Qualifications and training

Essential criteria
  • Midwife with NMC registration
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
  • Recognised teaching qualification, mentorship course or equivalent
  • Evidence of ongoing CPD
Desirable criteria
  • Formal management qualification
  • Evidence of research qualification or equivalent
  • Leadership Qualification

Experience and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Extensive post registration experience in intrapartum care
  • Clinically credible
  • Demonstrate experience of leading innovative change
  • Knowledge of national fetal surveillance drivers/recommendations eg: SBL, CNST, MIS
  • Experience in investigating clinical incidents and complaints
  • Involvement in audit
  • Teaching and education experience
