Job overview

The Water Supervisor will provide support to the Water Estates Officer and the wider Estates and Facilities team. The services will be delivered in line with all relevant legislation, regulation, and guidance appertaining to the field of work. 

As a member of the Estates department, you will be responsible for the effective management and control of the servicing infrastructure, minor replacement/installations and the associated water related trade staff and maintenance assistants. 

Assist to provide assurance on all matters of Water Safety through an estates service. 

Take responsibility and ownership for statutory inspections under your delegated area and keep records ensuring the Trust complies with current legislation. 

Lead and instruct a team of water biased engineers, providing guidance and assistance on related matters.

Have a wide knowledge and understanding of Healthcare water systems consisting of installation, servicing, maintenance and fault finding.

Have knowledge and understanding of drainage and watercourse systems for Estates guidance.

Main duties of the job

Organise daily work detail for staff by deploying suitable tasks from job requests generated from the Planet FM system. Reschedule and adjust work priorities to accommodate breakdowns & emergency repairs as they occur during working hours and as a result of feedback from staff and evaluation of work completed

 Integrate schedules for servicing plant & equipment, from computer generated PPM’s into staff work schedules along with any additional work identified by Mechanical Engineer or Estates Officers. 

Liaise with department heads/clinical managers to arrange access to areas for maintenance and PPM work. Co-ordinate and negotiate out of hours working when necessary.

Education, Training and Qualifications CPD Requirements

Essential criteria
  • Professional knowledge acquired through degree or equivalent knowledge and experience of water safety
  • Understanding of Health & Safety legislation and its application to a healthcare environment
  • L8 training.
Desirable criteria
  • Water Risk Assessment training.
  • Experience in Healthcare specific Water Safety

Experience & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Understanding of the principles of legionella management.
  • Significant experience within a large and complex estate.
  • Supervision of small trade teams.
Desirable criteria
  • Broad range of engineering experience in a maintenance environment in a large estate.
  • Experience in NHS healthcare environment.
  • Experience of assisting in the management managing breakdown or project work from inception to completion.

Skills and Ability

Essential criteria
  • To be able to demonstrate the ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative.

Communications and interpersonal skills

Essential criteria
  • Effective in interpreting data from a variety of mediums.
  • Able to make decisions and act on own initiative.
