Job overview

This role is key to the deliver and promotion of Health & Safety for both DSFS and the wider Chesterfield Royal Hospitals NHS Trust.  The individual will be responsible for delivering Health, Safety and Fire  training  to all staff groups. they will all support Health & Safety audit, investigate Health & Safety Related incident and support manager in their investigations.

They will also support the Head of Health & Safety in providing expert advice on Health, Safety and Welfare.

Main duties of the job

Provide expert advice to the Head of Health and Safety on Health, Safety and Environmental management and compliance. Deliver Health & Safety and Fire training to all staff groups. Manage training schedules and proactively liaise with stakeholder’s line management to ensure candidates are made available and maintain up to date training records.

Provide expert Health and Safety guidance to all “Trust / DSFS “working groups and committees as required. Process manage and undertake the completion of Health, Safety and Environmental Risk Assessments and undertake audits to ensure adherence to the relevant legislatory guidelines.

Understand changes to regulatory guidance, design new learning provisions and undertake regular training updates and seminars to ensure that up to date knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental guidance and regulation is maintained.

Actively participate and promote the control of contractors on site to include Site induction, auditing to ensure quality of service / works being provided including sign off completed works

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • Possession of a recognised Health & Safety Qualification IOSH, NEBOSH or equivalent Safety Management Qualification to Diploma level 3 or equivalent
  • Teaching Qualification
Desirable criteria
  • Degree level qualification in related field
  • Qualification in Supervisory Management

Experience

Essential criteria
  • 5 years operational experience of practical implementation of safety processes and training.
  • Undertaking of risk Assessments in a complex environment
  • Experience of implementation of strategies, policies and procedures
  • Experience in staff engagement and management of contractors
Desirable criteria
  • Hospital /NHS work environment experience
  • Experience in managing budgets

Skills and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Ability to produce risk-based reports with financial investment recommendations
  • Practical training and presentation skills
  • Experience of General Health and Safety Management and specialist implementation of that guidance
  • Ability to understand and manage complex situations that require a degree of interpretation and prioritise the resulting actions to effectively manage the issues raised
  • Proven track record of being able to communicate effectively on complex subjects at the highest levels
Desirable criteria
  • Operational experience of practical fire safety management and provision of practical realistic fire training
  • Ability to manage and motivate colleagues
  • Apply specialist knowledge of the fire safety legislation and guidance including experience of practical implementation of those guidelines within a complex healthcare environment.
  • Demonstrate ability to negotiate with stakeholders with regard to change leadership subject matters be that process or personnel
  • Experience and knowledge of financial management of budgets
