We are looking for an enthusiastic, hardworking and ambitious Pharmacy Technician who has a passion for training and developing staff to their full potential in a range of pharmaceutical services.
Main duties of the job
- To work with the Pharmacy Education and Training team to support the management and development of dispensing and clinical education and training of all pharmacy staff.
- To deliver technical training to all staff ensuring they have sufficient knowledge and skills to deliver excellent and safe patient care.
- To participate in reviewing and updating departmental induction, training material and competency assessments for staff groups.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- To support the management and development of the dispensing and clinical related education and training of all staff ensuring standardisation of practice and learning.
- To support in delivering relevant technical aspects of training to all staff groups, within dispensaries and ward environments. This will involve organising training programs to ensure that all staff
,involved in service delivery are trained and competency assessed.
- To take a lead role in collating and monitoring performance of assigned Trainee Technician’s personal development plans, taking appropriate action for individuals development needs when identified in liaison with the Lead Technician Education & Training.
- To review, write and implement new and existing procedures in relation to the training and development of Pharmacy Technicians and Assistants.
- To deliver technical aspects of induction training to necessary staff groups including JAC training and Labelling and Dispensing training
- To work with the Education & Training team to maintain and develop departmental induction and training packages and competency assessment materials.
- To support the Lead Technician Education and Training by liaising and coordinating with external course providers who provide education and external assessments for PTPT’s and Pharmacy Assistants.
- To support the Lead Technician Education and Training by acting as an expert witness for PTPTs and Pharmacy Assistants who are undertaking Level 2 or 3 pharmacy qualifications, including writing of evidence for submission for assessment of their skills.
- To act as an Educational Supervisor for PTPT’s and Pharmacy Assistants undertaking qualifications, ensuring quality and consistency of awarding bodies standards are maintained.
- To participate or act as recruitment officer for the recruitment of PTPT’s.
- To act as a workplace mentor and role model for Pharmacy Technicians, PTPT’s and Pharmacy Assistants.
- To undertake practice as a Senior Technician when required within the dispensaries or wards. This may include:
1. Labelling, dispensing and accuracy checking of medication.
2. Counselling patients on the use of their medication.
3. Producing and ordering of inpatient requests for dispensing.
4. Checking of Patient’s Own Drugs for suitability of use.
5. Carry out drug history and medicines reconciliation process on newly admitted patients.
6. Carry out locker checks and be responsible for ordering medication for inpatient use.
- Attend department and regional Education and Training meetings in the absence of the Lead Technician Education and Training.
· Participate and coordinate in Pharmacy career promotion events at local schools and colleges.

Essential criteria
- Registered Pharmacy Technician
Desirable criteria
- Obtained a training qualification, HEE core skill ES certificate, assessor/verifier qualification or recognised mentoring course
Experience
Essential criteria
- Hospital experience (wards & dispensary) & knowledge of hospital practice. Accuracy checker and 3 years dispensing/clinical duties.
- Training experience
- Effective communication skills including written and oral to Pharmacy, MDT, healthcare agencies, patients
- IT literate
- Able to identify and solve problems and able to work on own initiative but know limitations of own knowledge
Desirable criteria
- Coaching & mentoring experience
- Knowledge of PTPT educational requirements and qualification
