In the Surgical Division we have bikers, runners, video game heroes, movie buffs, music lovers, home bakers, keep fit-ers, readers, writers, travellers, artists, crafters, food lovers, DIY-ers, pet lovers and every other variety of people!  We have family people, single people, diverse people, happy people.  You’ll find friends here and we’re sure you’ll find your place within this diverse team!

Main duties of the job

We are looking for someone who has….

 

A passion for health and wellbeing, to help and support staff to be at work and return to work after periods of absence, someone who has a real desire to make a positive difference for others.  You’ll need to be able to confidently communicate with people, be able to build sound working relationships and have a friendly and professional approach to work.  You’ll need to be able to work well on your own, and equally well as part of a team.  Work can be fast paced so you’ll need to be well organised and be able to plan and prioritise your work and be competent with IT.  We’re really open minded and embrace change, so please bring along your ideas and enthusiasm. Relevant qualifications or equivalent experience of Human Resources is ideal, but please don’t worry if you don’t tick all the boxes - we will support people with training, further education and development.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

All the details are in the job description, but in summary you will have a board and varied role as an Assistant HR Partner.  We have over one thousand staff in the surgical division in various roles and professions that you may work with. You’ll always be busy, but the work is really interesting and rewarding and every day goes really quickly! You’ll work closely with the Divisional HR Partner but may also support other divisions at times too.  In the HR role you’ll be here for our people, and our primary aim is to help create a great place for everyone to work.

Qualifications & Training

Essential criteria
  • Degree level qualified or equivalent experience. Good standard of education English Language and Maths GCSE (or equivalent)
  • Certificate in Personnel Practice or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Post graduate diploma in Human Resources (CIPD) Management or equivalent (or currently working towards)
  • Associate CIPD Status

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working in a HR role and supporting line managers in delivering the HR agenda
  • Experience of absence management and advice
  • Some experience of (i.e. participation in or support to the handling of) complex, sensitive or contentious issues
  • Experience of delivering HR training
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of handling consultation on terms and conditions and organisational change
  • Previous NHS experience
  • Previous advisory experience of working within a diverse, unionised environment
  • Experience of working across different divisions and disciplines
  • Experience of coaching
  • Experience of developing and updating HR policies

Skills & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Sound knowledge of employment law and employee relations
  • Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Demonstrate the ability to prioritise a varied and challenging workload, delivering to deadlines
  • Ability to work across organisational boundaries
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Adaptable to change
Desirable criteria
  • Understanding of HR principles within a complex organisation
