Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the WHU for a permanent part time housekeeper post, 16 hours per week.

The Womens Health Unit is a busy, multi-purpose unit, caring for women undergoing a range  of inpatient and outpatient gynaecological procedures and wishes to recruit a Housekeeper to provide direct support to the unit in order to meet the departmental requirements.

 Specifically by making sure the environment is maintained, kept clear, tidy and appropriately stocked. At times the post holder will support delivery of patient meals and beveridge's if needed. 

You will work alongside a dedicated multi-disciplinary team of nurses and  doctors to facilitate an environment to promote high quality care.  

Main duties of the job

To provide direct support to the unit in order to meet the departmental requirements, specifically by making sure the environment is kept clear, tidy and appropriately maintained. The post holder will support delivery of the meal and beveridge service to patients on the unit.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Ensure the department environment is kept clean to a predetermined level and in accordance with the Trust’s policies and procedures in order to achieve enhanced environmental standards.

Identify and action additional cleaning requirements.

Work in conjunction with Matrons and monitoring audit or implementing actions required.

Assist when needed in undertaking core domestic duties

Assist with the preparation of rooms for cleaning

Abide by infection prevention and control policies

To assist Nursing staff in any required areas of additional cleaning

To order and maintain adequate stock levels on the unit ensuring adequate supplies for weekend & holidays, to ensure the management team are aware of depleting stock levels.

To assist the nursing staff in the decontamination of equipment.

To ensure stock rooms are kept tidy and stock is easily accessible.

Assist with meal times and requesting patient’s meals.

Assist with the collection of patient experience feedback.

Monitor the condition of equipment and report faults and repairs.

Remove items for repair if required documenting the action.

To maintain patient confidentiality at all times.

To actively participate in the staff appraisal process.

To be familiar with relevant Operational, Personnel, Health and Safety Policies and procedures, including Fire, COSHH, No Smoking and Alcohol.

To attend mandatory updates as required.

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • Basic numeracy and literacy skills
Desirable criteria
  • Basic certificate in cleaning and housekeeping skills
  • NVQ Level 1

Experience

  • Previous experience in a hospital environment
  • Knowledge of Infection control
