An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Health Care Support Worker's to join Nightingale Ward and the new Paediatric Assessment Unit which has recently opened. Nightingale is a very busy Children's Ward looking after Children aged 0-16 years old.   Working with children and families preferably within a health care setting would be advantageous.

This post will require Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.

Main duties of the job

The main duty of a Health care support worker is to assist the qualified nursing staff in meeting the identified needs of each patient, in a safe and competent manner.

The Healthcare Support Worker, with the other members of the multi-disciplinary  team, will provide a quality service and ensure the highest possible  Standards of care are maintained at all times.

It is home to the Crooked Spire and is also close to Sheffield, Derby and Nottingham, thus offering numerous choices for recreational activities and lifestyles.

Chesterfield Royal Hospital was officially opened by the queen in 1985 and since then it has continued to expand and modernise, currently holding approximately 550 beds. We provide acute in-patient and out-patient care for Chesterfield and the surrounding rural area of North Derbyshire, serving a population of approximately 350,000 people.

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • Level 3 Apprenticeship in Care or equivalent experience
  • GSCE or equivalent in English and Maths
  • Care Certificate
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ Care Qualification
  • Health related training, First Aid, Food Handling

Skills and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Able to communicate routine information including observations effectively verbally & written to staff, patients/relatives
  • Able to work under own initiative within boundaries of role
  • Able to work under own initiative within boundaries of role.
  • Demonstrates awareness of importance of working as part of a team.
Desirable criteria
  • Basic nursing skills
  • Basic understanding of nursing practice & code of conduct
  • The 6C’S

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Understands the need for confidentiality
  • Understands & committed to a caring approach to patients, relatives/carers
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in a NHS/health care setting
  • Experience working in a paediatric/surgical/Medicine/emergency care setting

Personal Attributes

Essential criteria
  • Able to work & cope with rotating shift patterns (early, late, long days, night shifts over 7 days of the week
  • Able to move (manual handling) patients & equipment e.g. patient hoists, commodes, wheelchairs etc.
  • Able to deal with exposure to bereavement & ‘difficult’ patients & relatives
  • Professional appearance/approach to work/Caring
  • Good Team Member
