Job overview

We are looking to appoint a full time MSK Consultant Radiologist who will also specialise in delivery of our musculoskeletal & trauma imaging (MSK).

We are particularly interested in candidates who are competent in delivering a wide range of services across all modalities, including relevant interventional procedures and paediatric imaging, as well as achieving high reporting standards in a range of imaging examinations in both general and relevant subspecialty investigations.

You will be required to share the general reporting workload with other colleagues in addition to MSK imaging, which will complement the skill mix of the existing consultant team.

Main duties of the job

Main Responsibilities

  • Participate the general workload of the department which includes contribution to the duty radiologist rota, vetting of requests and in-patient CT and MRI reporting.
  • Provision of support for the MSK related workload including the sonography ultrasound service, plain film reporting, x-ray meetings, and in particular performing arthrograms as part of the interventional service.
  • Support the cross-sectional Imaging workload of the department by undertaking cancer target CT and MRI as well as routine cross-sectional imaging.
  • Support tumour site specific cancer MDT meetings as deemed appropriate, based on service specific requirements.
  • Teaching and training of radiology registrars, reporting radiographers and medical students.
  • Attendance at departmental discrepancy and educational / audit meetings.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MBBS / MBBCh and possess FRCR
  • MSK imaging sub-specialist training
  • Entry on GMC Specialist Register or Within six months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview
Desirable criteria
  • Higher degree
  • Special interest or additional qualifications in other areas of clinical radiology

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining a UK CCT in general radiology.
  • Oncology CT reporting
  • Experience of audit management.
  • Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of radiological investigations.
  • Experience of supervising radiology trainees.
Desirable criteria
  • 5 years supervised training in an appropriate ST equivalent training programme.
  • Fellowship in MSK imaging
  • Clinical leadership experience or training.
  • Higher management training
  • Experience as Educational Supervisor or Clinical Tutor.

Skills

Essential criteria
  • MSK US interventional skills
  • Able to perform Arthrograms
  • Ability to organise and manage radiology lists and priorities.
  • Basic Interventional Radiology skills including US guided biopsies & drainages
  • Clinical supervision experience/skills
Desirable criteria
  • Motivation skills, leadership skills and flexibility.
  • Fluoroscopy body Interventional skills E.g. nephrostomies
