Job overview

A dynamic and innovative Consultant, who has a special interest in Stroke, is invited to join our team at Chesterfield Royal Hospital. Our post will suit someone with ambition, drive and passion who will work collaboratively with us and our regional colleagues.

You will have supervisory skills, and a commitment to providing education and training for our medical workforce, students and wider clinical team. 

You will have completed broad based general medical training along with specific training in Stroke medicine and have gained CCT or be within six months of obtaining this. We are happy to consider flexible working options.

Depending on experience, you may wish to develop a sub-specialist interest within Stroke medicine along with opportunities to undertake a more varied role, which could include: 

Potential to continue other speciality work - i.e. in Acute Medicine

·       A lead role for MECD in Undergraduate Medical Education

Our ambition is to provide high quality services for patients across North Derbyshire and the surrounding area.  You will take independent responsibility for care of stroke patients in all elements of the pathway, engage fully with the clinical MDT, and provide expert clinical opinion and leadership for the service.

There is no requirement to be part of the consultant on call rota,  however, there is opportunity to contribute to the 7-day Stroke and Geriatrics provisions, which comprises weekend work on the Acute Frailty Unit and Eastwood ward.

The city of Sheffield is only 9 miles away and hosts two universities, one with a medical and dental school.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MBChB or equivalent medical qualification
  • Full registration with the GMC with a licence to practise and entry on GMC specialist register or within six months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT or equivalent) at time of interview.
Desirable criteria
  • Specialist interest or additional qualifications in other areas of specialty.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Clinical supervision experience/skills
  • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in a similar post.

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Sound knowledge of NHS and Local Authority structures and systems.
Desirable criteria
  • Ability to undertake training/mentoring of clinical staff and enthusiasm for education
