Upper Limb Fellow

NHS Medical & Dental: Senior Clinical Fellow

Job overview

We are looking to appoint a Post-CCT Upper Limb Fellow for a period of 12 months, starting in August 2026. This post offers an outstanding opportunity to gain extensive subspecialty experience in upper limb surgery within a busy, well-established department.

Ideally suited to candidates who have successfully completed at least five years of Specialist Registrar training in Trauma and Orthopaedics, approved by the Royal College of Surgeons, and have obtained their CCT or equivalent. The post is designed for individuals seeking to further develop their operative skills and clinical confidence prior to applying for a substantive consultant position.

This opportunity provides high-volume surgical experience, with 3–4 operating sessions per week, alongside regular elective clinics. There are no on-call commitments, allowing for focus on elective and trauma upper limb work. There will be numerous opportunities to engage in clinical research, audit projects, and regional and national presentations, with active consultant support and academic mentorship.

The post may be structured as two six-month rotations; the first providing greater exposure to shoulder and elbow surgery, and the second offering a stronger focus on wrist and hand surgery. This will allow you to benefit from a broad yet focused experience, working closely with different consultants across both segments of the fellowship to gain well-rounded operative and clinical skills.
