Job overview

The post holder will be the lead finance business specialist for the trust’s corporate directorates, working closely with directorate management to provide a comprehensive range of specialist and expert financial advice, training and support to enable the delivery of services efficiently and economically, as well as ensuring the achievement of all directorate financial targets. They will be the trust’s finance lead for transformation and workforce, contributing to the development of robust plans and monitoring and reporting on delivery. They will also be responsible for leading, co-ordinating and delivering specific financial analysis and project work as directed by the Associate Director of Finance.

Main duties of the job

  • They will be the trust’s finance lead for transformation and workforce, contributing to the development of robust plans and monitoring and reporting on delivery.
  • They will also be responsible for leading, co-ordinating and delivering specific financial analysis and project work as directed by the Associate Director of Finance.  
  • The role supports the Associate Director of Finance and Head of Financial Management in implementing the financial strategy and provides expert business and financial advice to support decision making.

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • Part CCAB (or equivalent) qualified
  • Evidence of on-going professional or personal development, e.g., Continuing Professional Development.
  • Evidence of leadership development
Desirable criteria
  • Professional accountancy (CCAB or equivalent) qualification
  • Postgraduate degree level education or equivalent knowledge and skills

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience in a senior financial management role
  • Experience of a wide range of financial accounting and information systems and accounting procedures with a large complex organisation
  • Experience at a senior level in a highly complex financial environment.
  • Experience of modelling the financial impact of service pathway design
  • Experience of developing income, expenditure, and activity forecasts, including the modelling of different scenarios.
  • Use of analytical skills to solve highly complex financial and non-financial problems.
  • Track record of financial and non-financial achievements
  • Experience of leading, managing & developing teams.
Desirable criteria
  • Two years’ experience as Finance Partner
  • Demonstration of significant leadership at organisational level.
  • Expert demonstrable knowledge of a wide range of financial accounting and information systems and accounting procedures with a large complex organisation
  • Demonstrable application of expert analytical skills solving highly complex financial and non-financial problems.
  • Knowledge/Experience of working outside organisational boundaries in a wider system.
  • NHS provider or commissioner experience

  • Ability to interpret highly complex information, including national financial policies, using skills knowledge and judgement.
  • Developed influencing and negotiation skills
  • Active listening skills, to interpret managers needs and issues.
  • Support and participate in leading and shaping the vision of the Finance Team.
  • Ability to forge and maintain constructive relationships with senior managers and to constructively challenge and hold to account in relation to financial decision making and subsequent consequences.
  • Ability to express facts, ideas and opinions clearly and directly both orally and in writing to both internal and external stakeholders.
Desirable criteria
  • Highly developed influencing and negotiation skills, including the ability to communicate contentious information to an audience that may not be receptive. This will include senior managers within the trust and external stakeholders.
  • To be integral in leading and shaping the vision of the Finance Team.
  • Political astuteness to understand the business, political and economic context in which discussions are taking place.
  • Understanding of NHS national context, policies and strategic issues being faced.
  • Awareness of the current developing areas within commissioning.
