Job overview
A vacancy has arisen within the Operating Theatres working as a Theatre Porter, working three days a week position (22.5 hours).
As part of the multidisciplinary team within the Operating Department the post holder will play a vital role in the day to day operation and smooth running of the department. They will accomplish this by ensuring the facilitation of timely movement of patients between the wards and the Operating Department as directed and assisting with the movement and maintenance of equipment and materials both within the department and the hospital in general.

Main duties of the job
Main Duties
- Transport of patients between the Wards, Theatre Reception Areas and Post Anaesthetic Care Units.
- Transfer of patients between beds / trolleys and theatre operating tables.
- Preparation and checking of all theatre trolleys to ensure they are fit for use.
- To assist in general cleaning within the department and maintain operating trolley storage areas in a clean and tidy manner.
- Monitoring of levels of medical gas cylinders and changing when required.
- To provide a messenger and delivery service both within the department and to ensure effective communication with other departments.
- To collect and transfer specimens to the Pathology Laboratory as and when directed to do so.
- Collect blood as and when required.
- Collect any items required from other departments within the hospital as and when required.
- Check used linen bags in changing rooms and change as and when necessary.
- Demonstrate a caring manner towards patients at all times and after training has been provided assist with moving and handling of patients as and when necessary.
- Collect equipment belonging to the department from wards and other areas.

- Previous Health Service or Public Sector experience
- Understanding of moving and handling procedures and guidlines in relation to the role
