Job overview
This is a reputable leadership role within Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Foundation Trust, based at the Royal Derby Hospital. The post of Clinical Lead Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) for Voice, Head and Neck Cancer, and ENT offers the opportunity to work at an advanced clinical level, providing expert assessment, treatment, and service development. The role combines direct patient care with leadership, research, and education, ensuring high standards of evidence-based practice and collaborative multidisciplinary working. Main duties of the job

Provide advanced clinical expertise in the assessment, diagnosis, and management of complex voice disorders, head and neck cancer, and tracheostomy/laryngectomy/airway cases.

Deliver highly specialist, person-centred interventions and second opinions, working collaboratively with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams.

Lead on service development, ensuring high standards of care through evidence-based practice, research, clinical audit, and innovation.

Act as a professional leader for the Speech and Language Therapy team, providing supervision, training, and mentorship to colleagues, students, and assistants.

Contribute to education and training for staff and wider professional groups at local, regional, and national levels.

Influence and support policy, strategy, and service improvement within the Trust and across partner organisations.

Maintain professional registration, continuous professional development, and a strong national profile in the clinical specialty.

Education, Qualifications and Training
Essential criteria
- Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree Qualification or equivalent
- Health Professions Council Registration -
- Evidence of successful completion of specialist short courses up to Master's degree equivalent
- Advanced Training-accredited recognised body
Experience and Knowledge Required
Essential criteria
- Relevant advanced experience post qualification in specialist field
- Writing and submitting bids for equipment and service develop
- Significant contribution to specialist area in policy/practice development
- In depth knowledge of Voice, Head and Neck and ENT clinical pathways
Skills and Attributes
Essential criteria
- Excellent interpersonal skills - including observation, listening and empathy skills
- Advanced negotiation and problem solving skills
- Well established knowledge of a broad range of assessment tools relevant to the specialist client group
- In-depth knowledge of national policies and procedures (relevant to the specialist client group)
- Skills in specialist clinical investigation i.e. FEES rigid indirect laryngoscopy and video fluoroscopy
- Level 3 FEES trained
- Competent in complex laryngectomy management
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of published research in peer review journals
