Job overview

The post holder will work as an integral part of the team and be responsible for the co-ordination of all patient facilities services over seven days in the bedded area and ensuring a clean, safe, comfortable environment.

 

Working either individually or as part of a team in ensuring a clean and safe environment is maintained for patients, staff and visitors following agreed work schedules, methods and procedures in accordance with the National Standards of Cleanliness.  The post holder will be required to have a flexible approach and be prepared to work on other sites should service demands dictate.

 

You will be working in the Perth House 24 bedded assessment hub in Chaddesden, Derby, used to facilitate discharges from hospital to home. 

Main duties of the job

Maintaining the care environment, ensuring high quality cleaning services withing the bedded unit. Maintaining the laundry room and the upkeep of equipment. Being responsible for laundering patient's clothing and ensuring these are returned to the person. Maintaining high quality IP and C standards for Perth House.

Our purpose is to provide community health services to a patient population of over one million people in Derbyshire and Derby, as part of Joined Up Care Derbyshire.

We employ around 4,200 substantive staff, caring for patients in 11 community hospitals and more than 30 health centres, as well as in clinics, GP practices, schools, care homes and, increasingly, in people’s own homes and via virtual consultations.

During the pandemic response we have led the implementation of public vaccination centres in collaboration with partners across health and social care.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Maintain the Care Environment
•    Provide an efficient, high quality domestic service within the bedded areas including: cleaning of sanitary ware, treatment rooms, waiting areas, office areas, kitchen areas, mirrors, internal glass, high and low dusting, washing of tiled services and paintwork etc.
•    Follow specific schedule of work relating to defined areas – though post holders are required to have a flexible approach to a daily routine and have the ability to organise and prioritise their own day to day work.
•    Escalate issues appropriately and via correct escalation process.
•    Ensure cleaning of specialist equipment is undertaken.
•    Ensure the all areas are clear of clutter, notice boards are tidy.
•    Ensure areas are cleared of waste and collections are made to remove soiled linen etc.
•    Report and ensure minor repairs are undertaken, i.e. light bulbs, furniture repairs.
•    Attend to flowers, plants etc.
•    Liaise with the Senior Housekeeper / CSB Deputy Manager regarding deep cleans and Infection Control related cleaning.
•    To prepare vacated beds (to include stripping and making of beds) in accordance with the disinfection policy in preparation for new patients.

 Assist the Team to meet the nutritional needs of patients.
•    To order meals and maintain food provisions.
•    To assist patients in ordering food where necessary.
•    To assist with meal service.
•    To prepare and service beverages and snacks as required.
•    Prepare tables/trays prior to meals.
•    To liaise with catering service regarding any particular dietary requirements patients may have.
•    Checking crockery stock and liaise with Hotel Services Supervisor regarding replacements.
•    Complete patient’s food and fluid balance charts as required.

Maintain the supply of  linen and patients’ personal clothing.
•    Ensure patients have an adequate supply of clean clothing.
•    Ensure patients clothing is marked for individual identification.
•    Ensure patient clean clothing is put away.
•    Maintain levels of flat linen.
•    Ensure curtains are hung correctly and liaise with the Hotel Services Supervisor regarding laundering etc.

  Maintaining ward / CSB Unit supplies
•    Economic and safe use of cleaning agents following manufacturers recommended instructions.  
•    Ensure the ward / CSB Unit has sufficient stocks to meet patient and staff requirements.
•    To ensure deliveries are correctly stored.
•    Ensure adequate supplies of toiletries for patients, i.e. soap, towels, toilet rolls etc.
•    Disposal of waste in accordance with the Trust Waste Policy.


5.    General
•    Receive, welcome and guide visitors to the  patient areas, liaising with other staff as appropriate.
•    Respond to requests for general information.
•    Provide a message service as required.
•    Be aware of the need to provide the best possible care to patients and maintain their privacy, dignity and confidentiality.
•    Take telephone messages where appropriate

Education, Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • Basic numeracy and literacy

  • Basic Health and Safety Certifcate
  • NVQ in cleaning

Experience and knowledge required
