The Forensic Services are expanding their capacity and an exciting opportunity for 2 Consultant Forensic Psychiatrists to join our Forensic Services has arisen. We are looking to recruit 2 enthusiastic consultants who will bring innovative ideas with energy and passion.
The Inpatient team on the Kedleston Unit delivers intensive, comprehensive, multidisciplinary treatments, care and risk management for patients who present a risk of harm to others in the context of a serious mental disorder. There are 20 beds at the Kedleston Unit across 2 functionalised wards: Curzon ward is an eight-bedded assessment ward and Scarsdale ward is a twelve-bedded rehabilitation ward.
The Kedleston Unit Team is a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists' Forensic Quality Network (QNFMH).
Our community forensic service was developed in 2017 and has grown organically in an innovative way with a diverse workforce. It includes MPACs within our nursing and psychology colleagues, Occupational Therapists, Dietician, Enablement Workers ( drug and alcohol worker, physical trainer) and Speech and Language Therapist. The forensic service provision includes a nurse-led Liaison & Diversion (L & D) Service based in the Police Station, Reconnect Team for those in the prison establishment and Mental Health Treatment Requirement (MHTR) Team led by psychology colleagues working in close collaboration with the L & D Team.
Main duties of the job
Within your role:
- Hold and manage a small cohort of mentally disordered offenders, mainly restricted and MAPPA registered individuals, and others presenting high risk of harm to others in the community with the MDT, until they can be safely transferred to General Adult Services.
- Forensic clinical leadership with robust interagency working with the statutory agencies involved in managing high risk patients in inpatient and community settings.
- Forensic assessments and second opinions on risk management of male and female Derbyshire patients, shared with the other Forensic Consultants.
- Curzon Consultant is expected to provide clinical oversight of the Criminal Justice Pathway, support the Liaison & Diversion Service and build close links with the PICU Team.
- Scarsdale Consultant is expected provide clinical oversight of the rehabilitation pathway using GIRFT principles and build close links with the Rehabilitation Service.
- Attendance at Weekly Business Meeting and participation in the MDT CPD sessions (termly) on Thursdays
- Weekly Community MDT meetings for allocation and case discussion of patients on Mondays
- Support Trust wide Forensic Supervision Forum with other colleagues
- Support training of Specialist Registrars and teaching of Medical Students
- Initiate innovative research and engage in Quality Improvement Projects
