Job overview
The University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust Gastroenterology team are looking for an enthusiastic individual to join their team as a Teaching Fellow. This is a fixed term post for 12 months, but with the potential to extend the post to 24 months depending on satisfactory performance.
The candidate would join a team of 17 consultants, together with trainees and specialist nurses in providing specialist Gastroenterology and Hepatology services within a large teaching hospital.
The Gastroenterology team are a friendly, dedicated and forward thinking team. There are separate luminal Gastroenterology and Hepatology wards, a dedicated, purpose built 7 room endoscopy suite, elective procedure unit and day case unit. The team are involved with research and patients may be approached to take part in clinical trials. The gastroenterology/hepatology service includes assessment, investigation and treatment of disorders of the oesophagus, stomach, bowel, pancreas and liver.

This role plays a critical part in the delivery of teaching in Gastroenterology. The successful candidate will deliver 5 fixed teaching sessions per week (including bedside teaching, tutorials, lectures and skills assessments). They will also undertake 1 outpatient clinic. The remaining sessions can be used to gain greater clinical experience, undertake quality improvement/ research projects etc. The final timetable will, therefore, be developed in conjunction with the candidate’s clinical supervisor.

Essential criteria
- MBBS or equivalent
Clinical Experience
Essential criteria
- Up to date Gastroenterology knowledge & evidence of an understanding of its application
- Evidence of achievement of Foundation competencies by time of appointment in line with GMC standards in Good Medical Practice
- Experience in making clinical decisions & managing risk
- Proven ability to work effectively in different clinical settings required in job
- Minimum 12 months UK/NHS experience in a paid role
Desirable criteria
- A minimum of 3 months experience as an IMT (or equivalent experience) in Gastroenterology at time of interview
- Evidence of specialty interest in Gastroenterology
Management
Essential criteria
- Evidence of interest & experience in undergraduate & postgraduate teaching
- Evidence of active participation in audit
Registration
Essential criteria
- Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice, at time of application
