Job overview
Our Maternity Service at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust (UHDB) are on a journey of improvement. As a service we strive to improve the experience for our expectant's mothers and their families through listening to our service users with our Trust board who have made significant investment in the maternity services financially and support of staff and service development.
The Maternity Services works in partnership with the Local Maternity and Neonatal Systems (LMNS) to drive the national maternity agenda forward to improve the safety and quality of our services.
We are excited to offer the role of Maternity Matron working cross site. We are looking for an enthusiastic and passionate midwife who wants to make a difference, by leading with compassion, implementing quality improvement initiatives and continuing to develop high quality services.
As a visible and compassionate leader, you will work in close collaboration with your colleagues, providing senior management cover, and working together to lead on delivery of the maternity and wider Trust agenda.
The post holder has a specific responsibility to support the promotion of high standards of care and embed patient safety. This will be through effective translation of learning from incidents and embedding this at a service level.

Main duties of the job
Your role will play a key part in improving the service we provide to the families who use our services at UHDB alongside our vision of maternity transformation. You will be working closely with obstetric, midwifery, neonatal and anaesthetic colleagues to implement national strategy and embed the golden thread of continual improvement across our services.
The Matron will ensure that midwifery and relevant support staff are led, managed, and developed in order to enable them to deliver the highest standards of patient care and experience.
Specifically, the Matron is accountable through their teams for:
- Overseeing and monitoring the quality, timeliness, and development of midwifery care in accordance with relevant professional standards.
- Ensuring that the environments in which patients receive care and treatment are fit for purpose, clean, well ordered and maintained.
- Ensuring that all staff practice in accordance with statutory and corporate policies, including those specific to infection prevention and control.
